Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis)

Eastern redbud is a small native ornamental tree prized for its early spring color and graceful form. It typically grows 20–30 feet tall with a rounded to spreading canopy and heart-shaped, blue-green leaves that turn yellow in fall. Smooth gray bark and elegant branching provide subtle winter interest.

In early spring, vibrant rose-pink flowers bloom directly along the branches and trunk before leaves emerge, creating a striking seasonal display. Small seed pods follow and persist into winter, offering additional visual appeal and food for wildlife.

Adaptable to a wide range of soils and conditions, eastern redbud thrives in full sun to partial shade and is well suited for home landscapes, gardens, and naturalized areas, where it provides year-round beauty and strong pollinator value.
